Artist Bio: Chris Gall
Chris Gall’s gallery showing at ArtsEye is a retrospective of 20 years of his work. The showing aptly named “Tales and Yarns” reflects the story telling nature of his work. A yarn is a long story of adventure or incredible happenings. Chris creates his artwork by hand engraving on clay-covered board-- which gives his work the feel of a woodcut. He also creates original oil paintings.
The work has been reproduced here at Photographic Works using pigmented ink on Arches Infinity Smooth watercolor paper under the direction of Chris Gall. Illustrator, author and at one time stand up comedian, Chris is truly a storyteller.
Chris' artwork has been seen in the New York Times, The Washington Post, Newsweek, the Atlantic, and many other publications. He has won over 50 major awards for excellence from Communication Arts Magazine and the Society of Illustrators in New York. His "flying fish" illustration, commissioned by the MTA for display throughout the New York subway system was seen daily by millions of riders. He has also published six all-ages picture books, America the Beautiful, (a Publisher's Weekly Best Children's Book in 2004), Dear Fish (a Borders Original Voices finalist in 2006), and There's Nothing To Do On Mars (a Kirkus Best Children's Book 2008), Dinotrux (a Publisher's Weekly Best Children's Book 2009), Substitute Creacher (2011), and Revenge of the Dinotrux (2012).
