Artist Bio: Jamie Williams
We seem to have forgotten about the cowgirl when we reminisce about the history of the West. With this in mind, Jamie Williams started photographing cowgirls a decade ago.
She captures the character of these women and the remarkable lives they lead. Their stories are full of life, hard work, determination; and lots of dust, sweat and horses.
In her American Cowgirl project, Jamie’s intention is to “preserve, honor, and recognize the legacy of cowgirls.” She wants us to be enlightened by these women.
Jamie is originally from Lubbock, Texas and now lives in Tucson. She has worked as a commercial photographer for 20 years. She has had her work appear in many publications and was recently awarded a grant from the Arizona Commission on the Arts.
Jamie has added filmmaker to her resume. Her American Cowgirl project has grown to include a documentary film.
